Taemosan University is an institution outside Neo Seoul to which Professor Mephi takes Sonmi-451. She learns his identity later. At the university, she is assigned to Boom-Sook Kim for research. Kim is lazy and jeopardizes her life. Sonmi meets Hae-Joo Im, who introduces her to wider learning and, upon being told that Professor Mephi has died, takes her away from the university on the pretense that she is escaping from government control.
